I think this is the first time since I began offering custom costumes that I actually had MY OWN kids costumes put together the day before Halloween...usually I'm trying to throw something together the morning of....poor neglected children, lol! We had a big party the night before though...so I was FORCED to be more organized! Carter was easy...he wanted to be "Bob the Builder"...Taylor and her friend wanted to be 50's Car-Hop waitresses (and I actually made them for them, so I did feel somewhat less neglectful) and Reagi (as usual) had a definite vision of what she wanted to be..."sort of a vampire/spider/witchy person...but still pretty" is how she described it...

We went shopping and trick-or-treating in the morning at the local mall...and Reagi (who has been begging to get her ears pierced since she turned six a couple of weeks ago) decided she was READY to do it! She was amazing...didn't cry at all...just said "ow...I think this actually hurts more than you said it would"...

Howard was working that evening at the Hospital ....darn...so it was just us trick-or-treating. It's much more fun with Daddy...but we tried our best. Reagi loved it...Carter complained the whole way and kept throwing his hat in the road...Taylor stayed home and gave out Candy...

Yay for Halloween!!!
Who knew?

Anyway...I'm still waiting on photos of the whole FLOAT...I can't wait to see what this creative mother put together for the whole scene...and I can't quite remember if we were doing Little Bo-Peep or Mary had a Little Lamb (not much difference actually...as it was a "Mother Goose" theme for the parade...so those both work, lol!)

I took some quick shots of Reagi in it before I shipped it...

it turned out quite pink and frothy...which was JUST the effect we were going for...;)

I love making Jane Austen hats...which was a perfect style for this costume...I shall have to post a tutorial on here sometime about how to do it...it's surprisingly easy and then you could have your own Regency bonnet to wear out and about!

Nataleehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14959930071892117672noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990566267073359267.post-51730041676526549582009-01-25T11:17:00.000-08:002009-01-25T12:05:29.423-08:00Happy YEAR of the Ox!!!!

January 26th, 2009 starts the New Year for China...it's already January 26th over there, so I figure we can start celebrating here too...especially because it is now the YEAR of the OX....and that is MY year! It's also my daughter's year...in fact, (this is such a strange coincidence) Taylor and I were both born in the year of the Ox and we were both born at 2:53 am...which is the HOUR of the Ox....that is almost too strange isn't it?

Here is a little bit about OXEN-folk...try to ignore all the completely untrue gibberish about us being stolid and dull...and stubborn and all that...just look at the parts where we are hard-working and loyal and dependable...all SO true...lol! Actually the part about being very intolerant of those that are lazy...oh my goodness, that could NOT be MORE true--it is my one true PET peeve, I cannot stand laziness!

Famous people born in the Year Of The Ox? They include President Barack Obama, actor George Clooney, boxer Oscar De La Hoya, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai, and soccer star Wayne Rooney.

Go and check here and see what your Chinese animal sign is...and then who you should marry (or who you should have married, lol!) according to the Chinese Zodiac they can predict who you will be most compatible with...and that may be quite true, as Oxen are supposed to be very compatible with Roosters...and my husband is a Rooster and we have a fabulous marriage--thank heavens I didn't marry a Tiger or a Horse...I could possibly be miserable and divorced right now;)

Further complicating matters is the fact that you have further "elements" that affect your sign; water, fire, earth and metal...depending on the year you were born. I'm a "water ox" (not a very attractive sounding term...but whatever;)) so that means I'm much more likely to see another persons point of view than most stubborn little oxen--HERE is a good place to check for that too.

Whether or not you believe in it...it IS fascinating to see what your sign is and what it says about you. And if nothing else...the Chinese New Year is a fun excuse to have a little chinese food and throw a party:) My cute mother, fabulous schoolteacher that she is, always celebrates the Chinese New Year with her class...they have a parade, complete with the big paper Chinese dragon...yummy food...I think it's wonderful they get to experience a little bit about another culture.

So, go and make some homemade fortune cookies...write some fun fortunes for your family for the year to come and CELEBRATE !

Nataleehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14959930071892117672noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990566267073359267.post-18921904597904103352009-01-19T22:22:00.000-08:002009-01-23T00:30:54.412-08:00ANDALUCIA!!!!All right...I know its been MONTHS and MONTHS since I posted...I cannot even begin to come up with the energy to explain myself...just chalk it up to busy-ness...and the holidays...and sheer "computer burn-out"... THIS morning started off great however...Howard closing at the hospital, so home to get up with Carter...kids home from school so I could sleep in a little and not have to run everybody around everywhere (which directly translates to TIME to take a shower, put on a somewhat matching outfit, and put a little more effort into my hair and makeup than normal)

So.

I proceed to the kitchen, where I whip up hot cereal, cocoa from scratch, cinammon toast---feeling pleasantly domestic and motherly...not to mention DRESSED and PULLED-together (obviously these things don't always happen at the same time)

Taylor ate....Carter ate...Reagan is always a reluctant eater, so finally comes over to eat and her cocoa is cold. I pour it in a sippy cup and put it in the microwave for a few seconds, then start to screw the TOP on...and cocoa EXPLODES out of the sippy cup lid like OLD Faithful--it went up like a geyser and FELL back down on my freshly washed hair...my makeup...streamed down my glasses...all over my favorite hoody....

Reagan starts laughing so hard she starts to choke on her Honey Nut Cheerios (she refused to eat the lovingly prepared Cream of Wheat) then proceeds to fall off the stool (still laughing--she wasn't hurt) Carter comes running in and runs right through all the cocoa all over the floor and then back out--getting cocoa on his socks and THEN the (just shampooed) living room carpet...

Okay.

I had to laugh too....but only after I changed, cleaned off my glasses, cleaned up the floor/counter/Carter... (maybe there is something to that whole "don't heat beverages in microwave" thing--or maybe you just can't heat stuff in a sippy cup)

And by the way--I think the RAINY SEASON is upon us....some of us are morose about this...some of us love it

Nataleehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14959930071892117672noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990566267073359267.post-58980949081673590442008-10-31T23:23:00.000-07:002008-11-01T00:31:04.461-07:00A Dark Fairy...A Cinderella Fairy...and a Dumbo (er...Eeyore)...

The wee kidlets went trick-or-treating tonight...I think its a little funny we have kids at two ends of the spectrum--we have Taylor who at age 10(almost 11) is thinking this might be her last year for trick-or-treating and that it is "just not as fun as it used to be, and candy just really isn't that important you know?"...

and then we have Carter-boy who finally could walk and do his own trick-or-treating for the first time...and he was hilarious! Did anyone else grow up in a hunting family? My father and brothers (and husband) are quite the hunting fanatics...most of our fall and winter activities were planned around WHEN the archery hunt started...when the rifle hunt started....when they ended...muzzle-loader hunts, special moose-hunt...special "north side of the Uintah Mountains" hunt...get the picture?;) I spent quite a few birthdays (my birthday is in October) in a camp-trailer, IN the "Book-Cliff" wilderness area, because opening weekend of the deer-hunt happened to fall on my birthday. You can actually make quite a good cake in a little propane stove...and I give full marks to my mother for making those birthdays quite as wonderful and memorable as any I've had.

But....I digress....

I've listed a fun new little costume on ebay...well, TWO costumes actually, but one is from last year.

THE QUEEN of HEARTS ....I'm quite taken with the whole black/white/red thing going on...not to mention I love small crowns...he he....AND I cannot think about the "queen of hearts" without thinking about the Disney cartoon and the cheshire cat parting is hair in the middle, grabbing both sides of it and pulling them straight down and sternly declaring all ways here are "THE QUEENS WAY"...a line that should be used more often in life I think...depending on who thinks they are THE QUEEN...

I also listed the Mad-Hatter...one of my most popular costumes ever, and one I receive quite a few requests for. The problem is...I really have a hard time repeating myself! I LOVE the creating of the first one, and then I'm okay with having to make another one...but after that, I am done with the whole thing and want to move on to another design....maybe I'm slightly attention deficit prone or something, lol! But it has been a year...so I figure I can make another one...actually looking forward to it!

sigh....in case you are wondering WHY in the world I haven't posted for so long...well, its a ghastly story involving a computer crash (a computer, I might add...that has 16,000 priceless pictures on it, ALL my business information, logos...shipping...etc, basically my whole life) AND the start of school for two girls...AND illness....I dunno, but I shall post about all of that now that life seems to be somewhat returning to normal...Nataleehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14959930071892117672noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990566267073359267.post-26397348199059609462008-08-19T23:37:00.000-07:002008-08-20T00:29:44.550-07:00Does everyone else think Shawn Johnson....is just the CUTEST sweetest thing on the planet?? I have been GLUED to the TV for days...staying up far later than I should, cannot PULL myself away from these Olympics!

Of course one of the highlights in the Olympics for me is always gymnastics...I get so emotionally involved with the gymnasts and the stories of thier lives....it is almost exhausting for me to watch them, I feel the butterflies right along with them. Watching Shawn Johnson's parents last night--as she finally won her gold medal--I was bawling right along with her sweet mom and dad....just that utter joy they were feeling on her behalf, and the relief...and the pride at her accomplishment. . .I had to reflect on the YEARS and the WORK that goes into becoming an olympic athlete, the devotion and the commitment it takes to perform at that level. You could see her mom just utterly worn out from emotion...it was one of the best moments in the olympics for me because it was so real and I was so truly happy she won. She is such a sweet gracious person...always congratulating her competitors, smiling at everyone...what grace and composure under such pressure!

I think I love to watch the Olympics so much because it is such DRAMA and it IS such pressure...and it is amazing to watch athletes perform at their best. It is so hard to DO exactly what you are supposed to DO at just the right time...to make your body overcome nerves and illness and injury...and put everything together and be able to say you are the best in the WORLD...can you imagine that feeling? It is amazing.....

meanwhile I am losing sleep and staying up until 2 am because I MUST watch it live....I don't want to just watch a replay the next day...It is kind've a relief that gymnastics and swimming are over...whew!

If you need a good laugh...read this article about Olympic Mascots....oh my goodness, it had Taylor and I in tears we were laughing so hard....I especially love the description of "Schuss"---"He was supposed to be a skier but looked instead like a giant tadpole balanced on an ice skate. There was nothing cute, cuddly or vaguely appealing about the Schuss, whose giant red head looked infected"---he he.... then the description of "Neve and Gliz"---"Gliz looked like a really pale bald guy who was trying to swallow a 46-inch television set. Let’s hope they never reproduce."

HILARIOUS...go read it, you'll love it:)Nataleehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14959930071892117672noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990566267073359267.post-14981273280323035132008-08-11T11:39:00.000-07:002008-08-11T11:51:39.234-07:00Finally! A new listing...."Summers End"Oh. My. Goodness. Is it just me, or does it feel like 5 years since I've listed anything? It was lovely having a wee summer break...but I really missed listing, there is something curiously addicting about it (as my husband can attest--he is sure I need some kind of 12-step program before I can wean myself from ebay...;))

Anyway...a cute little pinafore for Fall....with mushroom applique? The garden and flowers must have kicked it into high gear while we were gone...because I truly think if we'd been gone much longer the house would have been hidden in tomato plants by the time we returned... We've been so busy...and traveling all over the countryside visiting people we love and having a great time....

We just got back from our trip to Utah and it was wonderful...we absolutely love it here in Oregon, the only bad part is that ALL of our families on both sides are back in Utah and we do miss them so. Reagan and Taylor frequently want to know why we don't live by GRANDMA???;)

I have so many things to blog...pictures to share...stories to catch up on....so I'll try and blog one thing a day until I run out of things...sound like a plan?

We visited my side of the family out in Eastern Utah...I grew up near Vernal, Utah, near Dinosaur National Monument. One of the days we were there, we took all the kids and went for a fun visit to the museum and dinosaur gardens, then a picnic in the park. Proving that no trip with us is without humor...the pictures we took just strike me funny....

For instance...Taylor is being eaten by a Utah-Raptor (velociraptor for those fans of Jurassic Park) in the above picture. Do you think she would look quite that happy over the prospect of having her head chomped on?

we didn't think so either...which is why we had to retake that shot

MUCH more appropriate...

Anyway...the rest of the my family got into the spirit of things and just joined right in with all these dinosaurs in the gardens...Kassie (my younger sis) and this friendly looking fellow both look like they are highly interested in SOMETHING....actully maybe it's a GIRL-dinosaur and they just saw a cute boy walk by....who knows?

Howard and Carter...and this enormous scary "whatever kind of dino he is" all look like they are patiently waiting for a good moment to cross the street together...he he...

but my favorite pic has to be my cute mama...you can't tell she's been a fabulous school teacher of young kids all her life can you? (Jack Lemon, Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood....SO hilarious and truly a classic--its like an old-time melodrama with the HERO-Tony Curtis as "The Great Leslie"....and of course the VILLIAN--Jack Lemon as "Professor Fate")
anyway...
I love the part where they are trapped on an iceberg...floating around in the ocean, slowly sinking...and THE GREAT LESLIE is measuring how low in the water they are. He tells Professor Fate they have sunk lower...but he had better keep that information to himself and NOT worry the others. We've now listened to Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas is you"...ahem....maybe 65,000 times (a conservative estimate)....

Ever notice how kids can watch Christmas shows and listen to Christmas music ALL year round and it never gets old?? A lovely ability...

sooo...she runs in today, switches the music...starts to dance...then stops cold and announces, "I forgot my wings and tutu....SILLY me!"

I think I forgot my wings and tutu today too....silly me, that has been the problem the whole day...

I had the opportunity to do the MOST fun thing over the weekend! International Quilt Market was held in Portland...and oh my goodness, WHAT a treat! Total fun...total eye candy...famous fabric designers...boutique designers that I've always wanted to meet in real life...it was fabulous! Sandi Henderson was there debuting her newest line of fabric...and her booth was incredibly charming. It was so fun to meet her finally...it is kinda funny to think they live in Idaho where I used to live and possibly I ran into her before and didn't know it!

Fellow ebay boutique designer Chelsea (Pink Fig Patterns) was debuting her line of patterns too...her booth was SO cute...and she is so cute! It was a definite splash of "boutique-ness" added to the quilt world. I got to meet some of my favorite boutique people...and they were just as sweet and lovely as I thought they would be...proves you CAN judge people by what they design....he he...

Sorry no pictures, I hurried in and hurried out of the show, but if you ever get a chance to go...you SHOULD...wonderful!Nataleehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14959930071892117672noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7990566267073359267.post-57947361591654587112008-05-14T22:29:00.000-07:002008-05-14T22:37:29.267-07:00Special Ebay Listing...Two POSTS in one day??? There is no task on earth that requires more self-sacrifice...OR that brings more joy and happiness. Every day I give thanks that I have been given the opportunity to be a mother...and for the three special little souls that were sent to us. Don't you think your children were sent to YOU for a reason? I firmly believe that there is something they need that only WE can give them...anytime I feel inadequate in the face of the awesome responsibility it is to be a parent, I have to think of that... Maybe it can comfort you as well...just think what you provide your child with that no-one else could...and give yourself a big pat on the back:)

anyway....

We spent Mother's Day weekend on the Oregon Coast. My hubby (Howard) worked at Lincoln City hospital for two days, as they were in desperate need of a weekend pharmacist, and we all tagged along to shop, play...and just hang out. I had BIG PLANS for some fabulous shots of the kids on the beach, I really need to take some updated pics of all three together! I brought along the perfect "beach portrait" outfits...white linen and khaki...everything for the PERFECT photos.

now...just as a sidenote, whenever we go to the beach, the weather is a challenge for me. Whenever its warm here and I pack shorts and swimsuits for the beach...its 40 degrees there and hurricane-force winds are in effect. Then if its chilly here and I pack boots and coats for everyone...its 85 degrees and we are the only people on the beach DYING of heat....he he....

So this time I solved the problem...and packed for EITHER situation...just see the weather try and trick me this time!!!

well....it was freezing and pouring rain most of the first day. You know, we LOVE the Oregon coast...its gorgeous, and rugged...and so fun...but sometimes its hard to keep that in mind when sheets of cold mist are drenching you and the wind is blowing you over sideways....;)

Here is Taylor and Reagan...like the outfits? But, you know...I've just had to realize, you can never PLAN for anything Perfect...can you? I just need to relax and enjoy the time with my family and not worry about things I can't control! And once the sun came out for a minute, we did have a lovely time...watched the silly sea-lions....played in the sand...tried (unsuccessfully) to fly a kite...

Sunday was MUCH better weather-wise...we actually had a picnic on the shores of Devil's Lake, just a little inland from the coast.
